Serenje is one of the oldest districts in Zambia having earned its district status in 1939. It is located in the Central Province of Zambia and is about 191km from Kapiri Mposhi with access through the Great North Road and the TAZARA railway line. It covers an area of about 23,351km², and lies between latitude 13.5° S of the equator and longitude 30° east. Serenje borders Mkushi district on the Southwestern side, Chitambo on the Northeastern side, Nyimba district on the Southern side and the Democratic Republic of Congo on the Northwestern side.
