Chirundu Town Council was collecting motor vehicle levies for in-bound vehicles only, owing to a council resolution passed when Chirundu was still under Siavonga. This meant a loss of revenue on the part of the Council in respect to the non-collection of out-bound motor vehicle levy.
In December, 2022 Chirundu Town Council passed a Council resolution to capture the outbound vehicles as well.
The Council was correspondingly informed by the Business Review Regulatory Agency to undertake a Regulatory Impact Assessment (RIA), which was later approved.
This approval of the RIA has resulted in an increase in revenue to the Chirundu Town Council in excess of 50%, after the implementation of the resolution.
