NINE LOCAL AUTHORITIES BAG 2024 LOCAL GOVERNMENT AWARDS FOR EXCELLENCE IN RESPECTIVE CATEGORIES

The Local Government Association of Zambia (LGAZ) last night hosted the Local Government Awards for Excellence (LGAE) at Mulungushi International Conference Centre, which saw some local authorities emerge victorious. The Association was in receipt of 22 submissions from 14 local authorities and 9 were awarded in the following order:

-Under the City Council category, Chipata City Council scooped the first prize with Kitwe and Lusaka scooping the second and third prizes respectively.

-Under the Municipal Council category, Chililabombwe scooped the first prize while Mazabuka and Choma scooped the second and third prizes respectively.

-Under the Town Council category, the first prize was awarded to Nchelenge Town Council while the second prize was awarded to Kalumbila and the third prize to Chirundu Town Council.

In addition, the Women in Local Government Awards were also awarded to five women out of the ten (10) submissions that were received. The following were the successful candidates under the Women in Local Government Awards category:

-First prize was awarded to Funga Elizabeth Bwalya from Lusaka City Council

-Second prize was awarded to Bertha Mataa from Kaoma Town Council

-Third prize was awarded to Luyando Mwiinde from Pemba Town Council

-Fourth prize was awarded to Jamila Suleman from Mumbwa Town Council

-Fifth prize was awarded to Mwiche Senseta from Kafue Town Council

In his address, the guest of honour, Minister of Local Government and Rural Development Hon. Gary Nkombo, commended the local authorities that made submissions and urged other local authorities to emulate the same.
