Today, the Local Government Association of Zambia was thrilled to accompany the Global Platform Group delegates on a dynamic field visit to Kafue and Chilanga Town Councils, where meaningful discussions took center stage. Together, we explored key issues that are shaping our communities and driving sustainable development. Here’s a glimpse of the day’s impactful highlights:
- Tackling Gender Equality & Social Inclusion Challenges
Our first session delved into the ongoing challenges surrounding gender equality and social inclusion within council operations. Delegates and council representatives opened up about barriers they face not only in service delivery but also in fostering inclusive community engagement. It was inspiring to see leaders committed to breaking these barriers.
-Proactive Initiatives by the Councils
Next, Kafue and Chilanga Councils shared the specific activities they’re implementing to address these challenges head-on. From gender-focused programs to initiatives that promote social inclusion, the councils are taking tangible steps toward more equitable and inclusive governance. Their efforts truly exemplify leadership in action.
-Celebrating Success Stories & Lessons Learned
With resilience and dedication, these councils have achieved notable successes, which they shared with us today. From strengthening community trust to improving access to services for all, each story highlighted their journey of growth and valuable lessons learned. These insights remind us that progress, no matter how challenging, is always worth celebrating.
The day concluded at the Lusaka City Council Chamber with a warm and motivating presentation from the Local Government Association of Zambia (LGAZ), which was done by LGAZ Director Corporate Services Mr. Abraham Moobola. LGAZ President, Cllr. Vincent Lilanda, Local Government Gender Equality Council Chairperson, Cllr. Anne Kapandula Kalamatila and LGAZ ED Ms. Mpatanji Namumba, led the session, extending heartfelt thanks and presenting memorable tokens of appreciation to the Global Platform Group delegates.
Today’s experience underscores the power of partnership and shared vision in advancing social inclusion and gender equality across Zambia’s local authorities.
