The Local Government Association of Zambia (LGAZ) through the Alliance of Mayors and Municipal Leaders Initiative for Community Action on HIV&AIDS at the Local Level (AMICAALL) has convened a five-day Deep Diving Action Plan Workshop under the Reducing Adolescent Pregnancies and new HIV Infections in Zambia Project. The workshop is being held under the auspices of UNAIDS in collaboration with the National HIV/AIDS/TB/STI Council (NAC) at Family Safari lodge in Monze Town Council.

This important initiative brings together stakeholders from various sectors to strengthen the coordination of Adolescent-friendly Sexual and Reproductive Health and Rights (ASRHR), HIV, STI, and GBV response management in Monze District.

The workshop’s overall objective is to enhance the capacity of Monze Town Council to effectively coordinate stakeholder initiatives and create a conducive social and structural environment for sustainable advocacy, programming, and decision-making. These efforts contribute to achieving sustained HIV epidemic control and ending AIDS by 2030.

Participants will focus on strengthening the coordination of RAPHIZ project initiatives and improving access to strategic SRHR, HIV, STI, and GBV information to support effective decision-making.

Additionally, the workshop aims to develop an integrated, multisectoral action plan that aligns with community needs and national goals for health equity.

This initiative reflects the continued commitment of UNAIDS, AMICAALL, and NAC to empowering communities and building resilient systems for sustainable change.

During the official opening, Monze Town Council Chairperson, Councillor Powell Mutenguna, expressed his gratitude to UNAIDS for selecting Monze as a beneficiary of the project. He noted that the initiative would foster positive transformation among the youth in the district.

He further reaffirmed the district’s commitment to establishing a safe house to support survivors of Sexual and Gender-Based Violence (SGBV) and Gender-Based Violence (GBV).

Councillor Mutenguna concluded by commending LGAZ for its steadfast leadership in advancing the AMICAALL mandate, recognizing its critical role in strengthening local governance.

The stakeholders in attendance include representatives from the Council, District Health Office, District Administration, Councillors, existing Non-Governmental Organizations (NGOs) operating in the district, members of the media, faith-based organizations, and traditional leaders.

By fostering multi-sectoral collaboration and innovation, we can ensure that adolescents have access to the services they need to lead healthy lives and secure a brighter future for all.
