Lusaka Province is one of the 10 provinces in Zambia. It is the most urban of Zambia’s 10 provinces, and home to the nation’s capital, Lusaka. Lusaka Province is the smallest province in Zambia, it covers a surface area of about 21,896 square kilometres, sharing its borders with 3 Provinces namely, Central Province in the north, Eastern Province in the northeast, and Southern Province in the southwest. The province also shares its border with Zimbabwe and Mozambique.
The province is headed by a Provincial Minister appointed by the President, as the political head of the province. The administrative head of the province is the Permanent Secretary, who is also appointed by the President. Luapula Province is divided in 7 districts, namely, Lusaka, Chilanga, Chirundu, Chongwe, Kafue, Luangwa, and Rufunsa. Lusaka is the capital for the province, serving as an administrative centre of the province. According to Zambia Statistical Agency (ZAMSTATS), in 2015, the province had a population of about 2,777,439 with 1,401,215 Females representing 50.45% and 1,376,224 Males representing 49.55% of the total population. Despite being smallest province in Zambia in terms of area, Lusaka is also Zambia's most populated, with a population accounting for 17.95 per cent of the total Zambian population as of 2015
Lusaka province is the county’s primary economic and industrial hub, and the most urbanized. Manufacturing, Commercial agriculture, and Tourism are the major economic activities of the province. As the capital city of Zambia, Lusaka provides services including administrative functions to Zambia as a whole. However, Lusaka plays a significant role in the country’s manufacturing. Most manufacturing enterprises are located in Lusaka. Food processing enterprises, such as milling, meat processing and production of essential commodities such as detergents and other domestic chemical products seem to be concentrated in Lusaka. The Lower Zambezi National Park is one of the key tourist attractions in the province
Traditionally, the province is governed by Chiefs, including, Senior Chieftainess Nkomeshya Mukamambo, Senior Chief Mburuma Nsenga, Chief Sikoongo, Chief Chipepo, Chieftainess Chiyaba, Chief Bunda Bunda, Chieftainess Mpanshya, Chieftainess Shikabeta, Chief Mphuka, etc. The most predominantly spoken language is Nyanja. Bemba is another language that is common. Other language spoken in the province include Tonga, Lenje, Soli, Chewa, etc.
